It was late August 2012 just before the bank holiday and there I was in one of the local supermarkets to pick up a few bits and pieces and some baccy, when I spied something new at the kiosk, it was a “cigalike” E cigarette. Now this was at a time when there had been several failed attempts to cut back the ciggies using all the other conventional methods, so after a wee chat with assistant I decided nothing ventured and promptly handed over the cash for one battery unit and some refills. A couple of hours to charge the battery and off I started into my journey of discovery into the Ecig.
First impressions were not bad, not brilliant but certainly not disgusting, the flavour left a little to be desired but the throat hit ( the sensation that you’ve actually taken a draw) and vapour seemed to be OK. Then I ran into my first problem, the life of the battery. Just as I was getting used to it the battery needed charging, roughly 2 – 2.5hrs run time, urm now this could be a problem because I only had one battery, so back to the ciggies while I waited for it to charge. Still I persevered over the next couple of days and came to the conclusion that if only the batteries lasted longer, and the flavour was a bit better I might actually have found an alternative to smoking, so the second part of my journey began to find something better that could tick all the boxes.
After many hours searching the internet, and after what one more experienced vaper described as ‘analysis paralysis’ I finally found my first Ego Kit. Now this was the business, batteries that lasted 6 times as long, so easily lasting a full day, clearomisers that would hold nearly 3 times more liquid and were refillable, could it really be so easy . . . well yes, in fact the only problem I had now was while he’d been reluctant to try the cigalike my partner decided that he liked the look of these Ego’s and the liquid was quite nice so I was basically back to one battery, time to buy in the spares.
Roughly 2 weeks after buying my first cigalike ecig, the 3rd September 2012 was the first day when neither of us had a ciggie. Now I won’t lie and say that’s it all been smooth sailing since then, there have been some personal moments when life throws you a curve ball that if I’d have ‘quit smoking’ these would probably have been the trigger points when I’d have been back reaching for the ciggies. But that’s the beauty of vaping, if the urge struck try a different flavour or strength, try a different piece of kit and it passed. For some people it does actually help to try a ciggie and realise that it isn’t really that good and they’d much rather be vaping their favourite flavour of liquid, much nicer.
This is why here at E4V as vapers ourselves we are firmly committed to the belief that vaping offers a safer and healthier alternative to traditional tobacco products, and would like to see any smoker who wants to make the transition to vaping have the freedom & opportunity to do so.
